Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a comprehensive road safety awareness campaign targeting various community groups, including workers, taxi drivers, cyclists, and e-scooter users. This initiative aligns with the start of Ramadan, a period when road safety becomes even more crucial due to changes in routines, fasting hours, and increased traffic activity, especially during Iftar.

Objective: Reducing Traffic Incidents During Ramadan

The primary goal of this campaign is to minimize road accidents by educating the public about traffic safety measures and the importance of adhering to road regulations. A key focus is on highlighting truck movement restrictions during peak hours, ensuring smoother traffic flow, and reducing congestion.

Key Initiatives of the Awareness Campaign

RTA has implemented multiple measures to spread awareness, including:

Distributing Awareness Brochures & Gift Packs – Informing road users about best practices for safe driving, especially during fasting hours.
Educating Taxi Drivers, Cyclists & E-Scooter Users – Promoting cautious driving and responsible road-sharing behavior.
Highlighting Truck Movement Restrictions – Ensuring compliance with rules to prevent congestion and accidents during Ramadan.
Encouraging Safe Driving Habits – Emphasizing the importance of staying alert, maintaining safe speeds, and avoiding reckless behavior.

Safety Challenges During Ramadan

During Ramadan, several factors contribute to increased road risks, including:
Fatigue & Reduced Alertness – Fasting may lead to lower energy levels, affecting drivers’ concentration.
Rush Before Iftar – Many drivers speed to reach their destination before breaking their fast, increasing accident risks.
Increased Pedestrian Movement – More people are on the roads, especially near mosques and food outlets at Iftar time.

RTA’s Commitment to Road Safety

By launching this initiative, RTA reinforces its commitment to road safety and ensures that all road users, from truck drivers to cyclists, understand and follow traffic laws. These efforts are crucial in maintaining a safe and efficient transport network throughout Dubai, especially during the Holy Month.

Drive Safe, Stay Alert, and Have a Blessed Ramadan!
