Travel between Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah is set for a revolutionary upgrade as Joby Aviation prepares to roll out its all-electric flying taxi service by the first half of 2027. The new transport option will cut journey times from more than an hour by road to just 15 minutes, offering a fast, eco-friendly alternative for both residents and tourists.

In the initial phase, flights will operate between Dubai International Airport’s vertiport and Al Marjan Island, the future home of the multi-billion-dollar Wynn Resorts. A second phase, scheduled for later in 2027, will connect Al Marjan Island to Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest peak and a popular adventure destination.

Zero-Emission Air Mobility

Joby’s aircraft are fully electric, capable of carrying a pilot and four passengers at speeds of up to 321 km/h, with zero operating emissions. This technology aligns with the UAE’s ambition to become a global leader in sustainable and smart transportation.

Partnership and Mobility Plan

The agreement to launch the service was signed between the Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (RAKTA), Joby Aviation, and Skyports Infrastructure. Under this collaboration, Joby will also establish the emirate’s first domestic flying taxi network.

Esmaeel Hasan Alblooshi, Director-General of RAKTA, said the initiative fits into Ras Al Khaimah’s Comprehensive Mobility Plan 2030, which focuses on integrating modern, eco-friendly transport solutions. “This project will provide quick, efficient, and sustainable mobility options for residents and visitors, while strengthening Ras Al Khaimah’s position as a smart city and global tourism hub,” he explained.

On-Demand Operations

Anthony Khoury, UAE General Manager at Joby Aviation, confirmed that the Dubai–Al Marjan route will launch in early 2027, with the Al Marjan–Jebel Jais connection to follow later the same year. He emphasized that the service will be on-demand, not bound to a fixed schedule, allowing flexible capacity increases.

“With the Wynn Resort opening in 2027, demand between Dubai and RAK will be significant, and we’re ready to scale flights accordingly,” Khoury added.
