The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that construction on Emirates Road will continue until August 30, 2025. The work is taking place across key sections between the Dubai–Al Ain Road interchange and the Ras Al Khor–Al Awir Road interchange.
This infrastructure upgrade includes widening of existing roadways, reconstruction of several interchanges, and enhancements aimed at improving overall traffic flow, safety, and capacity.
Traffic Diversions and Commute Disruptions
Motorists have already begun experiencing delays due to partial lane closures and traffic diversions. These disruptions are most noticeable during peak hours and affect commuters traveling toward Sharjah and other key routes such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
Commuters are advised to anticipate extended travel times and factor these changes into their daily schedules.
RTA Encourages Alternative Options and Real-Time Tracking
In response to the expected delays, the RTA has advised road users to:
- Plan their trips in advance
- Explore alternative routes
- Consider using public transportation options like Metro services and buses
The RTA is also providing live traffic updates through its mobile app and social media platforms to help commuters stay informed.
Part of a Broader Infrastructure Campaign
The Emirates Road upgrade is part of a larger road development program launched by the RTA. The campaign spans over 40 critical sites in Dubai and is scheduled to run through September 2025. It includes enhancements to 22 main roads, developments near school zones, and improvements across various residential and industrial areas.
Other major roadways under development include Umm Suqeim, Al Qudra, and Oud Metha, with works ranging from bridge construction to improved pedestrian and cyclist facilities.
Motorist Advice
Drivers navigating through construction zones are advised to:
- Use real-time maps for route planning
- Allow extra travel time
- Choose public transport options when possible
