Islamabad has taken a significant step forward in modern traffic enforcement by introducing drone surveillance to monitor road violations. In just the first seven days of deployment, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) issued over 150 traffic challans using this cutting-edge technology.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (retd) Zeshan Haider, the new system represents the first use of drones for issuing traffic tickets in Pakistan. The initiative identified 208 violations, resulting in 163 challan tickets and 45 warning letters.
The drone-based traffic monitoring system has already proven effective, offering real-time surveillance of lane violations, red-light offenses, and other traffic infractions. By providing aerial views, the drones allow authorities to monitor roads more comprehensively than traditional methods.
“This is just the beginning. We plan to expand drone surveillance across Islamabad to improve traffic discipline and public safety,” said CTO Haider. “Traffic law violations will not be tolerated in the federal capital.”
The ITP aims to enhance road safety and law enforcement by expanding drone coverage to other areas of Islamabad. Authorities believe this tech-forward approach will reduce accidents, encourage safer driving, and ensure greater compliance with traffic laws.
This initiative sets a new precedent for smart policing in Pakistan, and other cities may follow Islamabad’s lead in adopting drone traffic monitoring systems to curb road violations.
