The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Yango Services Pakistan have taken a major step toward transforming Islamabad’s public transport landscape. Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, held a meeting with Yango’s Country Head Miral Sharif Khan, Head of Public Policy Jahangir Khan, and the Yango management team at the CDA Headquarters on Thursday to discuss a comprehensive plan for modern and sustainable urban mobility in the capital.
The meeting was also attended by CDA Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Director General Resources, Director Metro Bus Services, and other senior officials.
Discussions focused on providing smart and efficient travel facilities for Islamabad’s citizens. Both sides agreed to explore integration between Yango’s app-based transport services and CDA’s metro and electric feeder bus networks. The initiative aims to make travel more accessible, affordable, and environmentally sustainable.
Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa emphasized the CDA’s vision:
“We are committed to making Islamabad one of the best capital cities in the world by offering modern, affordable, and eco-friendly transport options.”
He noted that the CDA’s real-time Google App for bus tracking will soon be integrated with Yango Services, giving commuters access to live updates for metro buses, electric feeders, and Yango’s car and bike rides in one unified platform.
The meeting also discussed the introduction of electric bikes, scooties, and bicycles to promote sustainable urban mobility. Chairman Randhawa stated that the CDA plans to collaborate with national and international companies through an open and transparent mechanism to implement these projects.
He reaffirmed that the CDA would provide all necessary infrastructure and support to ensure the success of these environmentally friendly initiatives.
Representatives from Yango, a global mobility company operating in over 30 countries, highlighted their successful experience in integrating ride-hailing services with public transport systems worldwide. They shared that 8,000 registered Yango drivers in Pakistan are already connected with the Safe City Project, enhancing commuter safety.
Yango officials also expressed interest in supporting Islamabad’s tree plantation campaigns, as well as participating in cultural and community events organized by the CDA.
Chairman Randhawa concluded the meeting by reaffirming the CDA’s commitment to leveraging Yango’s global expertise and technical capabilities to create a smart, green, and efficient urban transport network.
“Our priority is to provide the people of Islamabad with safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly travel options,” he said.
With the planned integration of digital transport services, electric mobility options, and sustainability programs, this partnership marks a significant stride toward making Islamabad a model smart city for Pakistan and the wider region.
