CDA Announces Two Major Road Projects to Improve Islamabad’s Connectivity

Share

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced two major infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and traffic flow in Islamabad. According to CDA officials, the new projects include:

  1. The complete overhauling of the Islamabad Expressway’s service road, and
  2. The construction of a new link road connecting Margalla Road to the boundary limit of Islamabad, which will eventually connect with a proposed road from Rawalpindi.

These projects are part of CDA’s upcoming development initiatives, reflecting its broader focus on improving urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion across the capital region.

Expressway Service Road Overhaul to Bring Relief for Commuters

The Islamabad Expressway service road, especially the section stretching from Sohan to Koral, has long been in a deteriorated condition. Years of neglect have led to deep potholes, surface erosion, and uneven patches that cause delays and discomfort for thousands of daily commuters.

This corridor is one of Islamabad’s busiest routes, serving several densely populated housing societies, including:

  • Ghauri Town
  • Airport Housing Society
  • Fazaia Colony
  • Farooq-e-Azam Colony
  • Iqbal Town
  • Raja Town
  • Al Noor Colony
  • Bilal Town
  • Gulzar-e-Quaid

CDA officials emphasized that the road’s poor state not only affects traffic movement but also contributes to congestion on the main Expressway. The revamp of the service road is expected to reduce pressure on the main highway, improve travel efficiency, and significantly enhance commuter safety and convenience.

New Road Linking Margalla Road to Rawalpindi Boundary

The second project involves the construction of a new connecting road between Margalla Road and the Islamabad boundary, where it will link with a planned route extending from Rawalpindi. This initiative is designed to strengthen intercity connectivity, offering a new route for residents traveling between the twin cities.

Officials said that the link road will also help divert heavy traffic away from central Islamabad, promoting smoother urban traffic flow and reducing bottlenecks during peak hours.

Improving Urban Mobility and Future Growth

The CDA’s renewed focus on upgrading key road networks demonstrates its commitment to sustainable urban development. Both projects are expected to improve road safety, enhance travel comfort, and support residential and commercial expansion in Islamabad’s rapidly developing zones.

Once completed, these road projects will play a crucial role in shaping the future transport infrastructure of the capital, reducing travel times, and improving overall quality of life for its residents.

CDA also need to construct road between Margalla Town and Sohan because this road will also share in reducing the Traffic rush at Faizabad.
