CDA Proposes New Highway for Direct Access to Margalla Enclave

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has unveiled a proposal for a new highway aimed at enhancing connectivity between the Prime Minister House and Margalla Enclave. This initiative seeks to streamline travel and reduce commute time by constructing a strategic road link.

Highway Plan and Route Details

The proposed project involves leveraging the existing six-kilometer highway up to the Barakahu Bypass, coupled with a four-kilometer extension, creating a 10-kilometer direct route. This development aligns with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s directive to establish a five-minute travel route to Margalla Enclave.

Proposal Submission and Feasibility Study

The CDA Planning Wing has conducted an extensive site analysis and submitted its findings to CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner Mohammad Ali Randhawa. Senior officials have also reviewed the feasibility of the highway, considering factors such as construction time, costs, and potential benefits.

Projected Timeline and Cost Efficiency

The construction timeline is estimated to be one year, requiring a substantial investment. However, to reduce costs, the proposal recommends building a parallel highway alongside the existing route. This approach could save the government between Rs. 6 billion and Rs. 8 billion, making the project more economically viable.

Key Benefits of the New Highway

  • Reduced Travel Time: The new route will provide a fast and direct connection between key locations.
  • Cost Savings: The parallel highway design significantly reduces construction expenses.
  • Improved Connectivity: The road will enhance transportation efficiency for government officials and residents.
  • Strategic Infrastructure Development: Strengthening Islamabad’s road network aligns with long-term urban planning and development goals.

The CDA’s proposed highway represents a major step toward infrastructure enhancement in Islamabad. By improving accessibility and minimizing travel time, this project is expected to boost connectivity, streamline transportation, and reduce costs. As the proposal progresses, further assessments and approvals will determine the final execution timeline.

Stay tuned for updates on this transformative infrastructure project!
