Punjab’s Central Business District (CBD) has officially launched Route 47, a transformative infrastructure project aimed at dramatically easing traffic congestion and improving urban connectivity between Gulberg and Walton. The 4.5-kilometer dual carriageway, featuring three lanes in each direction, now allows commuters to travel the previously congested stretch in under five minutes—a journey that once took nearly 20 minutes.

The route begins from Leader Road in Gulberg and extends directly to the CBD Gate in Walton, offering a seamless connection between two of Lahore’s busiest commercial zones. The inauguration was marked by a ceremonial drive-through led by CBD Punjab CEO Imran Amin, who emphasized the project’s role in transforming mobility in Lahore.

Key Features of Route 47

Route 47 isn’t just a road—it’s a model of modern, sustainable urban development. Some of its standout features include:

  • Solar-powered lighting systems, reducing the project’s carbon footprint
  • A dedicated cycling lane, encouraging eco-friendly commuting
  • An artificial lake for rainwater harvesting and storage, supporting water sustainability
  • Enhanced landscaping and greenery, aligning with the Green Punjab initiative

Strategic Importance

Route 47 is set to redefine traffic movement in Lahore, especially for business commuters and residents in the CBD and adjoining areas. By significantly reducing travel time, the project is expected to:

  • Ease congestion on alternate routes
  • Improve access to commercial hubs
  • Boost productivity by minimizing delays
  • Encourage investment in the CBD zone

Public Response and Future Outlook

The public has responded positively to the launch, with daily commuters praising the faster travel times and smoother ride quality. Urban planners and infrastructure experts see Route 47 as a blueprint for future roadway projects in Punjab that prioritize efficiency, sustainability, and smart urban planning.

With the successful completion of Route 47, CBD Punjab reinforces its commitment to infrastructure excellence and green development, while setting a new standard for urban mobility in Pakistan.
