The automotive industry in Pakistan has seen a significant boost in car sales during the first month of the current financial year 2024-25, with an impressive increase of 58.21% compared to the same period last year. According to recent data released by the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA), a total of 5,857 cars were sold in July 2024, up from 3,702 units in July 2023.

Breakdown of Sales by Model

The breakdown of the figures reveals notable trends across different car models. The Honda Civic and City experienced a substantial rise in sales, with 790 units sold in July 2024 compared to just 208 units in the same month last year. This marks a remarkable recovery for the Honda models, reflecting increased consumer demand and market confidence.

Similarly, Toyota Corolla and Yaris saw a modest yet positive growth of 3.65%, with sales climbing from 1,067 units in July 2023 to 1,106 units in July 2024. The steady performance of these models underscores Toyota’s continued popularity in the Pakistani market.

Suzuki Swift also recorded a significant surge in sales, with a remarkable 101.60% increase. Sales jumped from 249 units last year to 502 units this July, indicating strong consumer interest in this compact car.

Mixed Performance for Other Suzuki Models

While some Suzuki models performed exceptionally well, others showed a decline in sales. Suzuki Alto emerged as a top performer, witnessing a 99.23% increase in sales, rising from 1,440 units in July 2023 to 2,869 units in July 2024. This makes the Alto one of the most popular choices among Pakistani car buyers this year.

On the other hand, the Suzuki Cultus saw a decrease in sales, dropping to 96 units in July 2024 from 177 units in the same month last year. Similarly, the Suzuki WagonR also experienced a decline, with sales falling to 139 units compared to 245 units in July 2023.

Meanwhile, the Suzuki Bolan showed a positive trend, with sales increasing from 146 units last year to 288 units this year, reflecting a growing preference for this model.

The overall increase in car sales during the first month of the financial year 2024-25 highlights a resurgence in the automotive sector, with certain models gaining significant traction. The sharp rise in sales figures for models like Honda Civic, City, and Suzuki Swift indicates a renewed consumer interest, while the mixed performance of other models like Suzuki Cultus and WagonR suggests shifting preferences within the market.

As the financial year progresses, it will be interesting to see how these trends evolve and what strategies automakers will employ to maintain or boost their sales momentum. The data underscores the dynamic nature of Pakistan’s automotive market, with opportunities for growth and challenges for manufacturers to address.
