Chinese automaker BYD is preparing to launch a new premium electric vehicle in Europe that promises dramatically faster charging than most EVs on the market today. The vehicle, called the Denza Z9 GT, is expected to arrive next month as part of BYD’s strategy to expand its presence outside China.
The Denza brand is BYD’s premium division. The upcoming Z9 GT will target high end electric car buyers while showcasing the company’s latest battery and charging technology.
According to BYD, the new EV can charge in just a few minutes using its latest flash charging system. This development could significantly reduce charging times, one of the biggest concerns among electric vehicle buyers.
The model will also offer an estimated driving range of up to 800 kilometers on a full charge. This figure places the vehicle among the longest range electric cars currently available.
BYD plans to introduce the vehicle across several European markets as it continues to grow its global sales network.
Flash Charging Technology and Global Expansion
The Denza Z9 GT uses BYD’s newest battery system designed for ultra fast charging. The company says the vehicle can charge from 10 percent to 70 percent in about five minutes.
The battery can also charge from 20 percent to 97 percent in around 12 minutes even in extremely cold temperatures. BYD claims the system can operate in conditions as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius.
These charging speeds bring EV charging closer to the time needed to refuel a gasoline vehicle. Traditional fast charging electric vehicles often require around 30 to 45 minutes to reach similar levels.
To support the new technology, BYD plans to deploy its own flash charging stations in Europe. The company will begin installing these chargers later this year.
The charging system requires extremely high power levels of up to 1500 kilowatts. Current public charging networks are not designed to support this level of power. As a result, BYD plans to build compatible infrastructure to support its latest vehicles.
The Denza Z9 GT highlights the technological progress Chinese automakers have made in the EV sector. Many Chinese brands now compete directly with established European manufacturers in electric vehicle development.
BYD’s global expansion comes at a time when the company faces stronger competition in its home market. The automaker has experienced slower growth in China during recent months.
Industry data shows that BYD increased its global vehicle sales from around 420000 units in 2020 to approximately 4.6 million vehicles in 2025. This rapid growth has helped the company become one of the world’s largest automakers.
However, competition in China has intensified. Domestic rival Geely recently surpassed BYD in early 2026 sales after changes in government incentives.
China also ended its purchase tax exemption for electric and plug in hybrid vehicles. The policy change has affected demand and allowed some traditional automakers to regain market share.

Despite these challenges, BYD continues to expand internationally. Europe remains one of the company’s fastest growing markets. BYD sales in the region reportedly increased by nearly 270 percent last year.
The launch of the Denza Z9 GT represents another step in BYD’s strategy to strengthen its position in the global EV market while showcasing its latest electric vehicle technology.
