The announcement was made during a Sindh Cabinet meeting, where officials reviewed and approved costs related to multiple large-scale transport projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving urban mobility in Pakistan’s largest city.
During the session, the cabinet approved a revised cost of $620 million for the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, which is being developed under the Karachi Mobility Project. Of the updated cost, the World Bank will provide $155 million, while the Sindh government will arrange $18 million to support project implementation.
The Chief Minister directed that the 21-kilometer-long Yellow Line BRT should be completed by December 2028, stressing the need to accelerate construction activities and avoid further delays. He also instructed authorities to immediately commence road construction projects across Karachi, highlighting the urgent need to address deteriorating infrastructure and growing traffic challenges.

In another major decision, the provincial cabinet approved the handover of the 36-kilometer Dumlottee to DHA water pipeline project to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). The move is intended to expedite work on the critical water supply project, which is expected to improve water availability in several areas of the city.
Additionally, the cabinet approved Rs. 300 million for the purchase of land from PTCL for the Malir Depot, a key facility linked to the Yellow Line BRT operations.
Major transport infrastructure upgrades underway in Karachi
These approvals reflect the Sindh government’s renewed focus on strengthening Karachi’s transport network through international financing, timely project execution, and improved coordination between provincial and federal agencies. Once completed, the BRT Red Line and Yellow Line projects are expected to significantly reduce commute times, lower traffic congestion, and provide affordable public transport options for millions of residents.
