Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari, while addressing the public through a video statement, confirmed that Basant will be celebrated for only three days. A complete motorcycle ban across Lahore will remain in effect during the festival period, a move aimed at significantly reducing road accidents and injuries.
Motorcycle Ban to Reduce Road Accidents
According to the government, motorcyclists have historically been the most vulnerable during Basant due to sharp kite strings, overcrowded streets, and poor visibility. By banning motorcycles, authorities aim to prevent fatal incidents and ensure safer roads for pedestrians and families participating in the celebrations.
Designated Kite-Flying Areas and Kite Restrictions
Uzma Bukhari emphasized that kite flying will only be permitted in officially designated areas. Authorities will strictly regulate the size, material, and type of kites, while the sale and use of hazardous kite strings will be closely monitored.
Law-enforcement agencies have been instructed to take zero-tolerance action against violations, including illegal kite sales or flying in restricted zones.
