Balochistan Launches Subsidized Electric Scooter Scheme with National Bank of Pakistan

In a major step toward affordable and eco-friendly urban mobility, the Government of Balochistan has signed a formal agreement with the National Bank of Pakistan to provide electric scooters on subsidized installment plans. The initiative is aimed at students, working women, and the general public, offering a practical solution to daily commuting challenges across the province.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta during a ceremony attended by senior government officials and bank representatives. The signing marks a significant milestone in Balochistan’s efforts to modernize its transport sector while promoting environmental sustainability.

A Welfare-Focused Mobility Initiative

Speaking at the ceremony, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, Chief Minister of Balochistan, emphasized that the electric scooter scheme is designed to provide safe, reliable, and affordable transportation, particularly for students and working women who often face mobility constraints.

According to the chief minister, the project will help reduce daily transportation costs, ease commuting difficulties, and encourage the use of environmentally friendly vehicles. He highlighted that cleaner mobility solutions are essential for improving urban living standards while reducing fuel dependency and emissions.

Empowering Women and Youth Through Access

Provincial Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani and other officials present at the event echoed the sentiment that improved access to transport directly supports women’s participation in education and the workforce. For students, affordable electric scooters can significantly cut travel time and expenses, while for working women, independent mobility enhances safety and economic inclusion.

Chief Minister Bugti noted that such initiatives reflect the provincial government’s public welfare–driven approach, with a clear focus on projects that deliver real, everyday benefits to citizens rather than short-term relief.

Affordable Installments Through National Bank of Pakistan

Under the agreement, the National Bank of Pakistan will facilitate subsidized installment plans, making electric scooters financially accessible to a broader segment of society. By leveraging the bank’s nationwide infrastructure, the scheme aims to ensure transparency, easy access to financing, and smooth implementation.

This model aligns with Pakistan’s broader shift toward electric mobility, where affordability and financing remain key barriers to adoption. By addressing these challenges, Balochistan is positioning itself as a proactive province in supporting clean transport solutions.

Long-Term Vision for Sustainable Development

The chief minister reaffirmed that the provincial government will continue to launch initiatives that support long-term economic and social development, especially those benefiting youth and women. The electric scooter program is expected to contribute not only to individual mobility but also to reduced traffic congestion, lower fuel consumption, and improved environmental outcomes.
