In a significant step toward modernizing urban mobility, the Balochistan government has officially introduced 21 state-of-the-art buses under its Green and Pink Bus Project. The initiative, rolled out on the directives of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, is designed to improve daily commuting in Quetta and Turbat, offering citizens modern, safe, and reliable travel options.
Bus Allocation and Features
Out of the new fleet, 17 buses will operate in Quetta, while 4 have been allocated to Turbat. To ensure safety and comfort for women, five pink buses in Quetta will run exclusively for female passengers. Meanwhile, 12 green buses will serve major urban routes, providing efficient and dependable transport for the general public.
Capacity and Impact
According to Transport Secretary Muhammad Hayat Kakar, the buses have already been inspected, delivered, and are ready for operation. He highlighted that the project will enhance the travel experience of thousands of daily commuters while creating new job opportunities for local residents.
Once fully operational, the service is expected to cater to 40,000–50,000 passengers daily, significantly reducing traffic congestion and reliance on outdated transport systems.
A Step Toward Inclusive and Sustainable Development
The provincial government has emphasized that the Green and Pink Bus Project is part of a broader strategy for sustainable and inclusive urban development. By ensuring dedicated buses for women, the project also strengthens public safety and gender inclusivity in urban transport.
The launch of the Balochistan Green and Pink Bus Project marks a transformative step for Quetta and Turbat. By modernizing public transport infrastructure and addressing gender-sensitive mobility challenges, the provincial government is paving the way for a safer, more efficient, and sustainable transport system that reflects the needs of growing urban populations.
