A revolutionary moment in global motorsport is taking shape in the United Arab Emirates, where the world’s first fully autonomous Formula One car, the EAV-25, is ready to race without a human behind the wheel. Developed by the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) of Abu Dhabi, this groundbreaking vehicle merges cutting-edge artificial intelligence with high-performance engineering to push the boundaries of speed, safety, and innovation.
Valued at a remarkable $25 million, the EAV-25 reflects the next evolution of racing technology. Unlike traditional F1 cars, which typically cost between $12 million and $15 million, this AI-driven marvel features ultra-premium components — a $50,000 steering system and aerodynamic wings worth up to $500,000. Its front is inspired by a hammerhead shark, showcasing a distinctive T-shaped nose designed for aerodynamic efficiency and aesthetic boldness.
The EAV-25 has no cockpit, no driver seat, and no steering input from humans. Instead, it runs on advanced AI algorithms capable of processing over a million calculations per second. These algorithms are trained using data from world-renowned F1 legends such as Lewis Hamilton, enabling the car to mimic professional racing strategies, including acceleration patterns, cornering precision, and overtaking maneuvers.
According to Sultan Al Ali, Vice President of Group 63, the onboard systems employ sensor fusion, edge computing, and real-time decision-making to navigate complex race conditions independently. The car even runs on traditional petrol fuel, proving that AI and conventional engineering can coexist to create futuristic racing experiences.
The EAV-25 is capable of hitting top speeds of 370 km/h, surpassing some current Formula One models. Its development cost runs into millions, underscoring the UAE’s commitment to becoming a global hub for AI-driven mobility and innovation.
The car is currently being showcased at the Evolve Future Mobility Show at Expo Centre Sharjah, ahead of its first major appearance at the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League, which debuts at Yas Marina Circuit on November 15. Featuring 22 AI-powered vehicles and a $2.25 million prize pool, the event promises to redefine motorsport entertainment and technology on a global stage.
Since its debut in 2009, Yas Marina Circuit has been central to the UAE’s motorsport legacy, even featuring in the Hollywood film “F1: The Movie.” Now, with the introduction of the EAV-25, the UAE is set to lead the world into a new era of autonomous, AI-powered racing — where human ingenuity meets machine intelligence at full speed.
