Sony Honda Unveils AFEELA SUV Prototype Despite EV Slowdown

Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) showcased its AFEELA Prototype 2026 at CES 2026 in Las Vegas on January 5. The new SUV-inspired electric vehicle expands the AFEELA lineup, which started with the AFEELA 1 sedan. The prototype aims to merge Honda’s automotive expertise with Sony’s entertainment technology, turning the car into a creative and connected mobility space.

The AFEELA Prototype 2026 features enhanced spatial flexibility and accessibility compared to the AFEELA 1 sedan. SHM CEO Yasuhide Mizuno confirmed plans for a production SUV based on this prototype, targeting U.S. customers as early as 2028. The AFEELA 1 sedan remains scheduled for deliveries in California in late 2026, with expansion to other states in 2027.

Advanced Features of AFEELA

The AFEELA lineup offers a wide range of innovative features designed to combine mobility, technology, and entertainment:

  • Advanced AI Personal Agent – Powered by Microsoft Azure, enabling natural conversations and personalized experiences.
  • Powerful Computing – Qualcomm Snapdragon technology provides strong performance for software and entertainment features.
  • Safety and Autonomy – Numerous sensors support Level 2+ driver assistance, with plans to reach Level 4 autonomy.
  • Gaming Integration – PlayStation Remote Play allows streaming of PS4 and PS5 games directly in the car.
  • Premium Audio Experience – The “listening room” delivers studio-quality sound inspired by Japanese music producer Tomoko Ida.

SHM is also exploring OS options and an On-Chain Mobility Service Platform, focusing on fun, connection, and user engagement rather than just speed or range.

Sony Honda positions AFEELA as more than a conventional EV. It is an intelligent platform that blends Honda’s automotive strength with Sony’s entertainment expertise. The new SUV prototype emphasizes smart features, AI integration, and immersive experiences, offering a fresh perspective on what a connected EV can be.
