Abu Dhabi is gearing up to introduce a state-of-the-art tram system that will redefine urban mobility across the capital. The ambitious project, revealed by the Abu Dhabi Transport Company (ADT) at Global Rail 2025, will connect Zayed International Airport with some of the emirate’s most iconic attractions, including Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, Yas Waterworld, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, Yas Mall, and Yas Marina Circuit.
The new Abu Dhabi tram project, part of the Abu Dhabi Light Rail masterplan, is a cornerstone of the city’s long-term vision to build a sustainable, smart, and interconnected transport network.
According to the masterplan presented by ADT, the Abu Dhabi Tram Line 4 and Urban Loop will initially serve Yas Island and the Al Raha residential communities. The tram system will be developed in three phases, featuring:
Construction of the tram system is expected to begin in 2026, with commercial operations slated for 2030. Future extensions may link the network to Khalifa City, additional Yas Island developments, and even a proposed Disneyland project.
Speaking at the unveiling, Saeed Salem Al Suwaidi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Transport Company, emphasized that the initiative is focused on “reimagining urban mobility” through smart infrastructure, data-driven systems, and sustainable design.
“The Abu Dhabi tram project integrates multiple modes of transport to create a seamless travel experience for residents and visitors alike,” Al Suwaidi said. “It’s not just about connecting destinations — it’s about building smarter, cleaner, and more connected cities.”
To advance this mission, ADT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi Airports, ensuring close collaboration between air and ground transport systems. The partnership will help deliver sustainable and convenient connections, enhancing passenger experience, community wellbeing, and economic growth.
Once operational, the tram will serve as a sustainable link between Abu Dhabi’s international gateway and its entertainment capital. Residents of Yas Island, Al Raha, and Khalifa City will enjoy efficient, eco-friendly travel to work, leisure, and retail destinations without relying on private cars.
The Abu Dhabi tram project also supports the emirate’s broader green mobility goals, reducing carbon emissions and promoting smart, integrated city planning. It complements other public transport initiatives, including autonomous shuttles, electric buses, and smart parking systems under development across the UAE capital.
The upcoming Abu Dhabi tram system represents more than a new mode of transport — it’s a statement of intent toward building a modern, connected, and sustainable city. With its strategic integration of airports, attractions, and residential zones, the project positions Abu Dhabi as a global leader in urban mobility innovation.
By 2030, residents and visitors alike will experience a smarter, cleaner, and faster way to explore the heart of Abu Dhabi — from the runway at Zayed International Airport to the thrill of Yas Island’s world-class destinations.
