Karachi Traffic Police have announced a special traffic plan for August 22, 2026, to facilitate citizens and maintain smooth traffic flow during the 8 Rabi-ul-Awwal processions being held at different locations across the city. The main procession began from Nishtar Park, while other processions are scheduled from various areas of Karachi.
The traffic arrangements have been introduced to manage the expected increase in pedestrian and vehicular movement around procession routes. Traffic police personnel have been deployed at important points to regulate traffic, guide motorists and reduce congestion.
Special Vehicle Passes for Procession Participants
Citizens intending to participate in the processions using their vehicles were required to obtain special vehicle passes. According to the traffic police, passes were available from the relevant central office between August 17 and August 20.
Applicants were required to submit their vehicle registration card, CNIC and two photographs for the issuance of the pass. Participants travelling by vehicle have also been instructed to keep their original vehicle registration card and CNIC with them during the procession.
Only vehicles authorised under the traffic arrangements will be permitted to access restricted procession areas.
Alternative Routes for Karachi Motorists
Karachi Traffic Police have arranged alternative routes for motorists affected by road closures and diversions. Citizens who do not need to travel through procession areas have been advised to avoid the affected routes and use alternative roads wherever possible.
Traffic officers will be stationed at different locations to direct vehicles and pedestrians and make adjustments according to traffic conditions.
The areas surrounding Nishtar Park and other major procession routes are expected to experience significant traffic activity. Motorists travelling through central Karachi are therefore advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional travel time.
Traffic Police Urge Citizens to Cooperate
Authorities have urged citizens to follow the instructions of traffic police personnel deployed along the routes. Motorists should avoid unnecessary parking near procession routes and should not attempt to enter restricted areas without proper authorisation.
The traffic arrangements are intended to balance the needs of procession participants with those of ordinary commuters. Additional traffic management measures will remain in place throughout the day to address congestion around major gathering points.
The first Chup Tazia procession from Nishtar Park has already concluded at Hussainia Iranian Kharadar, with roads affected by that procession subsequently reopened. A second procession is scheduled to begin from Rizvia Society and pass through areas including Golimar, Nazimabad Chowrangi, Lasbela, Teen Hatti, PIB and Jamshed Road before concluding at Shah Najaf Imambargah on Martin Road.
Citizens travelling across Karachi on August 22 are advised to check their routes before leaving, avoid procession areas where possible and cooperate with traffic officials to help ensure safe and smooth movement across the city.
Disclaimer: Traffic conditions and diversions may change during the day depending on procession movement and security requirements. Citizens should follow instructions issued by Karachi Traffic Police on the ground.
