Islamabad is poised for a major urban transformation as the federal government intensifies its focus on infrastructure development and city beautification to improve the capital’s livability. Deputy Director General Environment at the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Irfan Azeem Khan Niazi, has confirmed that several high-impact projects are nearing completion under the prime minister’s directive.
Speaking to PTV News, Niazi said the prime minister has placed strong emphasis on urban uplift, traffic management, and environmental sustainability across Islamabad. As part of this vision, two new flyovers at T-Chowk and Shaheen Chowk are expected to be inaugurated within the coming days, subject to the prime minister’s availability. These flyovers are designed to reduce traffic congestion at key intersections while also improving the city’s overall outlook.
Traffic Relief Through Strategic Flyovers
The new flyovers form part of a broader strategy to address increasing traffic volumes in the capital. T-Chowk and Shaheen Chowk are among Islamabad’s busiest junctions, and persistent congestion has long caused delays for daily commuters. Once operational, the flyovers are expected to streamline traffic flow, reduce travel time, and enhance road safety for motorists.
Greener Islamabad a Key Priority
Niazi revealed that the Interior Minister has instructed the CDA to ensure that infrastructure development goes hand in hand with environmental enhancement. In response, the authority has launched extensive plantation drives around newly built and existing road infrastructure. Special attention is being given to flowering and allergy-friendly tree species, aimed at improving air quality while minimizing health issues for residents.
This environmentally conscious approach reflects the government’s commitment to creating a cleaner and healthier urban environment alongside physical development.
Faizabad Remodeling Nears Completion
Providing an update on one of Islamabad’s largest traffic projects, Niazi said the Faizabad remodeling project has entered its final phase. The initiative includes road widening and loop extensions, which are expected to significantly ease congestion at one of the busiest entry points to the capital. The upgraded interchange is likely to improve connectivity between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, benefiting thousands of daily commuters.
Citywide Beautification Efforts Continue
In addition to major projects, CDA is actively carrying out landscaping and beautification work at major interchanges across Islamabad. Green belts, decorative plants, and enhanced landscaping features have already been installed at several locations, improving the city’s visual appeal and reinforcing its identity as a well-planned capital.
With multiple projects nearing completion, Islamabad is set to witness noticeable improvements in traffic management, greenery, and urban aesthetics in the coming weeks.
