The Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) has officially extended the deadline for completing mandatory vehicle emission testing and M-Tag installation by one week, according to a report by 24NewsHD. The move comes as part of the city administration’s ongoing efforts to regulate public transport operations, reduce environmental pollution, and streamline motorway toll procedures.
The revised deadline applies to inter-city, inter-district, and inter-provincial transport operators, who have now been given seven additional days to ensure full compliance. The directive underscores the government’s seriousness about curbing vehicular emissions while also ensuring that all commercial transport vehicles using the motorway are equipped with M-Tags.
Strict Warnings for Non-Compliance
Authorities have issued a clear warning: failure to meet the new deadline may lead to cancellation of the bus stand’s No Objection Certificate (NOC). Losing an NOC would immediately disrupt a transport operator’s ability to run legally, signalling how strictly the ITA intends to enforce these regulations.
ITA officials emphasized that the extension is not an exemption but a final grace period. Transport companies have been urged to complete both:
- Vehicle emission testing, ensuring environmental standards are met
- M-Tag installation, required for seamless toll payment on the motorway
Daily Reporting Made Mandatory
As part of the updated directives, the ITA has ordered all bus terminals to submit daily inspection and M-Tag compliance reports. This monitoring mechanism is designed to track progress, identify violators, and ensure that no transport operator bypasses the system.
Officials reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against any transport service that ignores the updated instructions. Penalties may include fines, suspension of permits, and closure of operations.
A Step Toward Cleaner and Regulated Public Transport
The decision reflects Islamabad’s broader push toward cleaner public transportation and improved digital toll management. By enforcing emission standards and M-Tag installation, the ITA aims to reduce air pollution, improve commuter safety, and ensure efficient traffic flow on major inter-city routes.
