Karachi To Deploy Robot Camera Cars to Automate No-Parking E-Challans

In a significant step toward modernizing traffic enforcement, the Karachi Traffic Police has introduced robot camera cars equipped with automated monitoring systems to identify and penalize no-parking violations. According to a report by Geo News, this initiative marks an expansion of the city’s digital enforcement strategy, which began with the implementation of the e-challan system.

The new technology-driven approach aims to address chronic parking issues in Karachi’s busiest commercial areas, where double parking and illegal parking frequently disrupt traffic flow. The advanced vehicles, developed by the police department, come fitted with high-resolution automated cameras designed to scan roads in real time and issue instant e-challans to violators.

Pilot Phase: Vehicles to Patrol Saddar and Tariq Road

Traffic Admin Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kashif Nadeem confirmed that preparations for the system have been completed. In the first phase, the robot camera cars will be deployed in Saddar and Tariq Road, two of the most congested and high-traffic shopping districts in Karachi.

These vehicles will move at a controlled speed of 20 km/h, enabling continuous and accurate scanning of the roads. If a car or motorcycle is found double-parked or stopping in a designated no-parking zone, the system will automatically capture the violation and generate an e-challan against the registered owner—eliminating manual intervention.

Automation to Reduce Human Dependency

DSP Nadeem added that these robot camera cars will still be operated by drivers but will rely entirely on automated detection technology for issuing fines. This minimizes the need for on-ground police presence, reduces chances of human error, and curtails opportunities for disputes or confrontations between traffic wardens and motorists.

Before the launch of these new vehicles, Karachi Traffic Police had already been issuing no-parking e-challans using the Safe City camera network. The introduction of mobile enforcement units marks an expansion of this ecosystem, making traffic monitoring more efficient and widespread.

A Step Toward Smarter Traffic Management

With no-parking violations being one of Karachi’s most pressing traffic problems, the deployment of robot camera cars is expected to improve road discipline and ease congestion in major commercial hubs. By automating enforcement and leveraging mobility, the Karachi Traffic Police is moving closer to creating a safer, smarter, and more organized urban transport environment.
