The Excise and Taxation Department has decided to raise the base prices of attractive and special number plates in Pakistan, a move that will significantly impact vehicle owners seeking unique registration numbers. According to official spokespersons, the adjustment aims to bring more transparency and value to the e-auction process for premium registration numbers.

Sharp Increase in Base Prices

Under the revised structure, the base prices of 64 attractive numbers will be increased tenfold. The changes include:

  • Highly attractive numbers (e.g., 1 and 786): Raised from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 100,000
  • Double numbers (e.g., 11, 22, 55): Increased from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 50,000
  • Triple numbers (e.g., 111, 222, 999): Increased from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 25,000
  • 999 series numbers: Additional Rs. 10,000 fee to be applied

This revision reflects the rising demand for unique registration plates and ensures a more competitive bidding process during auctions.

New System for Registration and Transfer

Officials further confirmed that, following the launch of the new system, attractive numbers will now be issued directly during vehicle registration and transfer. This shift is expected to streamline the process and reduce delays for buyers.

Currently, the Excise Department is issuing three car series per day and one motorcycle series per day under its updated framework.

Government Approval Awaited

The Director General (DG) Excise has already forwarded the price increase summary to the provincial government. Once approved, the new prices will be officially implemented in upcoming e-auctions.

Impact on Buyers

While the increase means buyers will now pay significantly more for attractive numbers, it also highlights the growing prestige and demand for unique vehicle plates in Pakistan. The move could also generate higher revenue for the government while discouraging underpricing in auctions.
