Dubai is taking another major step toward a sustainable future with the installation of 208 ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging points. The initiative follows a landmark agreement signed during the 27th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
In the first phase of development, two large-scale charging hubs will be built—one at the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) main depot near Dubai International Airport and another at its headquarters in Muhaisnah 4. These facilities are projected to reduce nearly 37,939 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, making a significant contribution to Dubai’s climate action agenda.
Dubai already has a well-established charging infrastructure, with more than 1,500 EV charging stations available across the city. Many of these were developed through public-private partnerships under DEWA’s EV Green Charger initiative, launched in 2014.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, emphasized that the new cooperation with Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) aligns with the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030 and the Dubai Social Agenda 33. He noted that such initiatives not only enhance Dubai’s environmental sustainability but also bolster its reputation as one of the best cities to live, work, and invest in.
Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Kalbat, Chairman of DTC’s Board of Directors, highlighted the corporation’s ambitious commitment to fully electrify its taxi and limousine fleet by 2040. He described this transformation as a key part of DTC’s sustainability strategy, positioning the company as a pioneer in clean, connected, and future-ready mobility.
This large-scale transition underscores Dubai’s vision to integrate innovative climate solutions into its transportation system while advancing the UAE’s broader sustainability goals.
