A new motorbike patrol service has been introduced as part of a pilot project aimed at improving security and surveillance across Pakistan’s motorways. Initiated under the leadership of Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, the project seeks to strengthen safety measures while ensuring more efficient road monitoring.

Deployment of Motorbike Patrol Units

As part of this initiative, 30 to 35 motorbikes will patrol various motorway sectors simultaneously, utilizing the current resources of the Motorway Police. While this pilot phase marks the beginning, the project is expected to expand over time, enhancing the reach and impact of motorway security.

Collaborative Efforts for Enhanced Security

Minister Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among key stakeholders, including the National Highway Authority (NHA), Motorway Police, Frontier Works Organization (FWO), and local district police. Their combined efforts are crucial for addressing issues such as theft of protective fencing on the motorways and ensuring overall safety for travelers.

The minister highlighted the need for a comprehensive strategy to safeguard motorway infrastructure. To prevent theft and repair damaged fencing promptly, he directed the Motorway Police and NHA to enhance accountability and implement strict measures.

Proposed Legal Amendments for Improved Enforcement

To further empower the Motorway Police, Abdul Aleem Khan proposed key amendments to existing laws. These changes aim to provide the police with greater authority in crime-prone areas and regions frequently targeted for fence thefts. Enhanced legal powers are expected to improve response times and ensure the protection of motorway infrastructure and motorists.

The minister also urged the Inspector General (IG) of Motorway Police to work closely with local authorities to investigate and resolve fence theft cases. Additionally, the Secretary of Communications has been tasked with submitting a detailed report on the coordinated efforts within a week to ensure the smooth implementation of the pilot project.

Ensuring Safer Motorways for Citizens

This proactive approach reflects the government’s commitment to improving motorway security and infrastructure maintenance. By deploying motorbike patrols, enhancing collaboration, and implementing stricter laws, the initiative aims to ensure safer travel experiences for all citizens.

As the pilot project gains momentum, it is expected to set a benchmark for modernized road safety measures, paving the way for expanded patrol services across Pakistan’s motorways.
