The 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz is a bold revival of the classic Type 2 microbus—a perfect blend of nostalgia, modern electric tech, and family-friendly practicality.

Retro Design Meets Modern Aesthetic

Drawing inspiration from the iconic 1950s–70s microbus, the ID. Buzz features a prominent VW logo, two-tone paint options, LED light accents, and a playful, upright silhouette. Designed by Klaus Zyciora, the vehicle modernizes nostalgic cues with a coefficient of drag around 0.285–0.29, notably sleek for its category.

Spacious & Versatile Interior

Built on VW’s MEB platform, the ID. Buzz offers exceptional interior volume with flexible 6- or 7-seat configurations. Its long-wheelbase models boast industry-leading third-row legroom, substantial cargo capacity (up to 145.5 cubic feet with seats folded), and features like flexible “Flexboard” surfaces. Panoramic glass roof and numerous USB ports enhance comfort and connectivity.

Strong EV Performance & Range

  • Battery & Range:
Equipped with a 91 kWh gross (86 kWh usable) battery, the RWD ID. Buzz delivers around 234 miles EPA-estimated range, while AWD reduces that slightly to 231 miles.
  • Power & Acceleration:
The single-motor RWD variant outputs 282 hp, reaching 0–60 mph in ~7.4 seconds. The dual-motor AWD version pushes 335 hp, accelerating to 60 mph in approximately 6 seconds.
  • Charging:
Supports DC fast charging up to 200 kW, enabling a 5% to 80% charge in roughly 26 minutes in the U.S.

Trim Levels & Pricing

Available trims include Pro S, Pro S Plus, and a celebratory 1st Edition. Pricing ranges from the low $60,000s to over $70,000, with the 1st Edition AWD hitting around $70,540.

Driving Impressions & Tech

Reviewers laud its nostalgic charm, smooth EV acceleration, and balanced handling for its size. While not the longest-range EV, it wins on personality and user joy — “How can you hate a car for having a personality?” remarked one reviewer.

Recognition & Future Outlook

  • Named North American Utility Vehicle of the Year (2025) for its innovative EV minivan concept.
  • A limited fleet of the autonomous ID. Buzz AD (Level 4-capable) is planned for launch in 2026.

Our Verdict

The 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz redefines the electric minivan genre with timeless styling, family-first flexibility, and modern range & performance. While its price and range may not suit every buyer, its charm, tech, and nostalgia make it a unique, compelling choice for adventurous families and design lovers alike.
